After the Election? Desolation Row

In a time that makes no sense. . . .I turn to Bob Dylan. And that Jerry Garcia guy? Pretty good guitar. . . .

Praise be to Nero’s Neptune
The Titanic sails at dawn
Everybody’s shouting
“Which side are you on ?”
And Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot
Fighting in the captain’s tower
While calypso singers laugh at them
And fishermen hold flowers
Between the windows of the sea
Where lovely mermaids flow
And nobody has to think too much
About Desolation Row.
Yes, I received your letter yesterday
About the time the door knob broke
When you asked me how I was doing
Was that some kind of joke ?
All these people that you mention
Yes, I know them, they’re quite lame
I had to rearrange their faces
And give them all another name
Right now I can’t read too good
Dont send me no more letters no
Not unless you mail them
From Desolation Row.

Amen, brother! Yes, it doesn’t make sense for people to vote against their own interests when they vote for Repugnantcans, but most of those same people are getting their information from the Faux News channel; it’s sad when gullible and naive people will believe anything that they are told or when they accept a distorted lie as if it was a fact. It would be helpful for every registered voter in the USA to read the book What’s the Matter With Kansas? by Thomas Frank. This book details how the conservatives took the populist themes away from the Democrats in order to dupe middle Americans who didn’t know any better. Fortunately, Bob Dylan is someone who can’t be fooled because he doesn’t follow political leaders. In Bob we trust.

Hall of Congress will indeed become Desolation Row if progressives of good will don’t quit the posturing and find their way back to their beliefs, Take a page from Russ Feingold’s book — class act to the [so undeserved and unfair] end.
